WINNER OF CONTEST #1!!!!!
#1- "SAMPLE SCARF" .by Mary Ann Kirchhoffer. I spindle-spun and plyed the yarns using primarily Bountiful's samples from 2 expired color cards, as well as leftovers of several 1/4 pounds of different colors of Alpine Meadow roving purchased from Bountiful It was a great way to use up all those little handfuls of fiber that are no longer available. I spun a mix of colors in succession as well as carded together some colors. Then I plied the singles either to themselver or some neutral green/grey singles I had spun. I estimate this scarf is composed of 75% to 85% Alpine Meadow fibers, including the following: Floral Patchwork, Hummingbird II, Mountain Wren, Black Lake III, Winter Sky, Johnny-Jump Up, Pasque Flower, Shooting Star, Blue Spruce, Victorian Patchwork, Red Tail Hawk, Summertime, Cardinal, Orange Butterflies as well as some "Wild Flowers.
I used a 7 or 9 knitting needle and the 2-ply yarn was roughly fingering to sport weight. The scarf in total weighs about 3 1/2 ounces. I used a single repeat of feather and fan stitch.
What is funny is that I first stitched the whole scarf up as a narrow garter stitch scarf. When it was finished I thought such a colorful yarn warranted a better stitch to show it off. And a lacy stitch would allow for more length. So I had been eyeing the feather and fan and had never seen just one repeat knitted up before so I re-knit my scarf that way...

3RD PLACE WINNER OF CONTEST #1 -
By Brianna Flynn #4: These are socks I made from the 'Mountain Campion' colorway. I spun some very poofy singles on my Jensen Tina II and made a 2 ply yarn of around 12 WPI (varies). It took roughly two ounces of yarn for the socks.
The socks were knit on #2 needles, and were my first cable project! They knit at 8.5 st/in. The design is my own - cables on the cuff and down the front of the foot, short row heel, wedge toe to 18 stitches. The little stripe of white on the cuff of one of the socks is the result of a streak of mohair in the roving - two mohair streaks just happened to ply together, and the stripe actually seems to be everyone's favorite part of the sock! (I knit these largely at work, and their progress was eagerly watched and commented upon)
Go ahead and use this in the gallery, or wherever you like. I also have a detail picture of the cables and the heel if you'd like to see that. (It's pretty small). Sorry this is cutting it so close, but I actually had to drive two and a half hours to my parent's house to get pictures of the socks!
