STRAUCH "PETITE" BELT DRIVEN DRUM CARDERS  Prices Effective 1-1-08

FORMERLY FRICKE

The Strauch Petite is constructed of various hardwoods combined with MDF medium density fiberboard) in an attractive wood grain finish. The licker drum is 2" diameter x 6 1/2" wide. The carding drum is 7" diameter x 6 1/4" wide and produces a batt approx. 6" by 22". Overall size of the Petite is 9" wide x 16" long. A hidden tray can be extended for a larger feeding area. It has # 05 card cloth on the carding drum (128 psi.) and comes omes with a Knuckle-Saving Batt Picker, Doffer/Cleaner Brush, small cleaning brush, & Clamp.

The newest drum carder in the Strauch carder line is the Petite. The Petite is a manual drum carder with a polyurethane drive belt. This carder is part of our product line specifically for fiber artists who have budget or space considerations but want Strauch quality.

The Petite is an excellent choice for a mid-sized carder with full sized features. The Petite is slightly smaller (6 ½" wide drums) than the standard chain drive (7 ¾" wide) models. As with the chain drive models, the 05 extra-fine cloth on the large drum and "Slicker-Licker" on the small drum is standard.

Unique to this carder is that it is available in kit form as well as fully assembled. Kit comes with everything you need. A word of caution, however, being a belt drive carder, it is designed for the occasional user. If you plan to do a lot of fiber processing, consider the durability of the chain drive series.
Special tools included with each Petite (both kit and assembled) are:

The popular Knuckle-Saving-Batt-Pick, an invaluable tool for removing the batt without damage to the equipment or the user.

A Doffer/Cleaner Brush to thoroughly and easily clean any residual fibers from the carding drum.

A small cleaner/dabber brush for use on the licker drum.

A table clamp to secure the carder to the work surface.

The fabulous Brush Attachment is available separately and can be installed at time of purchase or be added later.

DOUBLE WIDE models 202, 203, 205 are all 789.00 each

This Strauch chain drive drum carder for home use also has a 7" diameter x 7¾" wide working drum and a 2" diameter x 8" wide licker drum producing a batt approximately 7" wide x 22" long. The overall length of the machine is 24" and 11-1/2" with a 4" high frame. This carder is meant to be used at the edge of the work surface, allowing turning of the crank.

For those with specialized needs, there are three styles of card cloth available for the carding drum. All cloth uses 3/8" long plated steel wire in a tough rubberized cloth backing:

02 Regular -72 teeth (or points) per square inch. Can be used successfully for coarse to middle range fiber such as Cheviot and Romney as well as adult mohair. Useful for long fibers such as Border Leicester to get a deep batt. NOT recommended for finer fibers. This is a favorite drum among felters who plan never to card fine fibers.

03 Fine -98 teeth /sq.in. For most fibers; again, NOT recommended for finer fibers.

05 Extra Fine-128 teeth /sq.in. For ALL fibers, especially the very fine varieties. With care, can be used with Merino, Llama, Alpaca, Cashmere blend, dog hair and other exotics. This card cloth along with the optional Brush Attachment is the most versatile combination.

The famous "Slicker-Licker" card cloth, unique to ALL Strauch carders, is used on the lickerin drum. This special card cloth has smooth, straight teeth which give a more gentle carding action to the fiber with virtually no fiber build up on the small drum.

Having a chain as the drive mechanism provides a constant positive non-slipping action while carding and is far superior to belt drives.

Special tools included with each carder are:

The popular Knuckle-Saving-Batt-Pick, an invaluable tool for removing the batt without damage to the equipment or the user.
A Doffer/Cleaner Brush to thoroughly and easily clean any residual fibers from the carding drum.
A small cleaner/dabber brush for use on the licker drum.

STRAUCH'S FINEST DRUM CARDER with Free Shipping in the Continental US

The flagship model is the "Finest". This top of the line model is unique and comes complete with all available features including the Brush Attachment.

Special tools included with each "Finest" are:
The popular Knuckle-Saving-Batt-Pick, an invaluable tool for removing the batt without damage to the equipment or the user.
A Doffer/Cleaner Brush to thoroughly and easily clean any residual fibers from the carding drum.
A small cleaner/dabber brush for use on the licker drum.
The new Teasing Tool to open locks and tease fiber prior to carding.
Table clamps to secure the carder to the work surface if desired.

Having a chain as the drive mechanism provides a constant positive non-slipping action while carding and is far superior to belt drives.

The wood frame is ash with a warm honey-oak finish. It has a 7" diameter x 7¾" wide working drum and a 2" diameter x 8" wide licker drum producing a batt approximately 7" wide x 22" long. The overall length of the machine is 24" and 11-1/2" wide with a 6" high frame. An important feature: Since the swing of the handle clears the table surface, the carder can be placed anywhere on the work surface.

This unit is equipped with the #05 (128 psi) card cloth and "Slicker-Licker"(SL). The 6" high frame permits a larger sprocket on the small drum. This makes a 5:1 ratio between the drums, which allows more carding action per revolution. This 5:1 ratio allows for minimal turning of the large drum to produce an excellent, well blended batt; 2-3 passes are sufficient.

 LOUET FULL SIZE DRUM CARDERS

LOUET DRUMCARDER (Standard): The Louet drumcarder is well-designed and efficient. No adjustment is ever necessary.  The non-slipping gears are enclosed in a gearbox and require no additional lubrication.  The teeth intermesh slightly, so that the fibers are combed more efficiently.  Since the teeth are flexible, they tend to bend out of the way providing gentle pressure on the fibers.  The extra long teeth ( 1/2") and the 10" diameter X 7.5" wide drum allow this carder to produce thicker and longer batts than conventional carders.  Carding cloth on the standard Louet drumcarders is fine (46 points per sq. inch) but coarse cloth (22 points per sq. inch) is available on special order.  The teeth are high grade plated wire to ensure a long life.  To operate the carder; clamp it on a corner of a sturdy table with the two table clamps provided.  Doffer Pin and Cleaning brush are included.
