| We were delighted to introduce the NEW "Greensleeves Spindles®" at the Estes Park Wool Market in June 02. They are made by Elizabeth and Bart Dailey. She has been a drop spindler since she was thirteen years old. Elizabeth is a wood turner with an engineering background. Bart is also a wood turner. They work side by side in their shop on 2 lathes. They compliment each other perfectly with their spindle making! Their spindles are absolutely incredible!!!!!! They are beautifully made from gorgeous woods and the best part is that they spin like a dream!!!!! They are so perfectly balanced you can hardly tell they are spinning. They spin all the way to the floor and are still spinning!!!!! Elizabeth feels that the "tweak" on the hook is critical.
If it is off even a millimeter it will affect the spin. She spends about
10 minutes on each spindle getting the hook tweaked for a perfect spin.
Elizabeth and Bart have a new accessory for their spindles which
they call the
"Butcher's Crown". It attaches to the top of the spindle and protects the
hook when you carry it in your bag. When you are using the spindle, the
crown doubles as a wrist distaff! They have applied for a patent on
the Butcher's Crown.

Above are photos of the cherry prototype. Below is the Flagship Lizzie Kate in Myrtle Burl w/ ebony guides!!!
|
GREENSLEEVES NEW "Lizzie Kate" is Elizabeth's solution for plying with your spindles. It is an idea that has been in her head for over 10 years. It is available in various woods. The center shaft can be removed for travel. I have just tried the prototype and it is amazing!!!! You can place it on the floor and draw your yarns up from the top or my favorite way to ply with the Lizzie Kate is to place it on a table and ply from the side of it. Because the plying guide also turns freely, it is incredibly easy to use!!!!! I do not know how we spindlers ever got along without it!!!!!
There are 2 styles. All styles will have a decorative hole for the optional threading hook. All styles will have 3/8" diameter holes for the spindles with sealed for life ball bearings inside for the spindles to turn on. They turn completely unimpeded!!!! The plying guide is adjustable in height. The 3/8" diameter spindle holes will fit most spindles. Please measure yours to be sure. All Greensleeves Spindles will fit.
"Plain Lizzie Kate" has an approx. 5" diameter base and holds 3 spindles. $ 117.00 each
"Flagship Lizzie Kate" has an approx. 6" diameter base, holds 4 spindles and comes with 2 plying guides, plus threading hook. $ 137.00 ea.

GREENSLEEVES BUTCHERS'
CROWNS
$18.00ea.
Elizabeth and Bart have designed a turned wooden cap to protect your
spindle's hook when transporting it. It was named after Cory Butcher who
helped in the design. They have applied for a patent for their Butchers'
Crown.
Amy Clarke, Editor of Spin Off Magazine purchased a Greensleeves "Hound" Spindle with a Butchers' Crown at the Estes Park Wool Market. Amy had a wonderful idea to improve the Butchers' Crown which Elizabeth and Bart have implemented. Amy suggested that the Crown double as a wrist distaff. Elizabeth installed a soft elastic cord with a bead to prevent the cord slipping off when worn around the wrist as a distaff. (Amy liked her "Hound" so much that she ordered a "Fox"!) |
