A modern double treadle, folding wheel with special features.This individually handcrafted upright spinning wheel has a light smooth treadle action, full orifice height, adjustable spinning head, modified double drive system, convenient carry handle for easy portability and with extensivepossibilities for spinning all types of yarn.All wheels are individually numbered, assembled and tested before packaging.

It is especially for use by those who need to transport a spinning wheel to club and conference functions but has the capability to cater for all types of spinning. The Little Gem is very suitable for use while on vacation or away from home and can be transported folded flat but assembled. The Little Gem easily handles tasks of spinning and plying wool, mohair, silk etc. The Little Gem, although small and incredibly light (around 4kgs or 10lbs), is a full height with attractive design.

When the little Gem was developed we used entirely different principles to other spinning wheels. The Little Gem has been two years in design and development and has been used to work with the finest of fibers to coarse wools. The small wheel lies at the heart of the design and instead of being driven by rods connected to the pedals, the wheel is belt driven from a small crank between the pedals. This allows us to spin the wheel at any given speed, the Gem wheel rotates at around one and a half times faster than a normal wheel. It also allows the wheel to be folded down to be transported. The pedals operate on a unique rolling action over the crank, entirely different to the up and down action of conventional pedals.The head portion is separate to the main stem and is able to be raised and turned to suit the spinner. This is a major development in design where the spinner can feed the fibre straight into the orifice rather than moving the hands or body to suit the direction of the wheel.

This wheel is extremely light, weighing around 4 kilos but is very stable on any surface. The Little Gem is very easy to assemble and disassemble, the wheel and lower stem folding down over the pedals after the head has been removed. However it can also be carried or stored folded flat with the head assembly turned to the side.

MAJACRAFT ROSE SPINNING WHEEL

The Rose features a double treadle upright traditional spoked drive wheel with a Rose design embellished on the front upright and on the bobbin carrier box. It comes with 2 flyers, both the standard delta orifice and the fine fiber orifice flyer plus 4 plastic bobbins and both a regular whorl with ratios of 4.25:1, 6:1, 8:1, 11:1, 14.5:1 plus a high speed whorl with ratios of 6:1, 9:1, 13.25:1, 16.5:1, & 19.5:1. The Suzie Professional has a medium density fiberboard green lacquered wheel which is approximately 10% heavier (than the Suzie). This gives it greater inertia for a smoother spinning action. It has 2 bobbin storage bars to hold your extra bobbins. (These are for storage only) The Suzie Professional folds for easy transport. All new Suzie wheels will have rubber feet fitted as on the Rose and the Little Gem. This has been done in response to spinners with polished wooden floors! This also has the advantage of keeping the wheel more firmly positioned while spinning.

The second change is probably the most important. The Suzie drive wheel is now a flat rimu veneer covered wheel made from medium density fiber board. It has an attractive design routered onto both the front and back and looks quite stunning. We can also supply it with the design highlighted in dark brown. All of our first wheels of this design were highlighted but it was felt by some that the plain design blended better with modern decor. We will do both.
The advantages are that it provides a very stable wheel in all climates and temperatures, even the American winter when our laminated wheels are put to the test by the warm furnaces and dehumidifers.
It is also of similar weight to the professional wheel, however we will not drop the professional from our range as some customers prefer a plain green wheel.
